I’d been dwelling on the idea of starting a blog since the start of this year, but because I’ve mastered the art of procrastinating, I’ve managed to put it off this long.
In July of 2018, my life changed drastically. I had done four years of university and on the verge of completing when I had to leave my very stable and close to perfect life behind. In the previous 2 years I’d been battling with depression due to the very high expectations of my parents, my constant need for validation and the need to put up a front nearly half the time to fit into the social construct in which I found myself. Following the events of July 2018, I went through a roller coaster of emotions (having very few peaks) and being that I’m sort of a music junkie, I found solace in a few songs. One Day At A Time by Sam Smith was one of those songs and I was especially encouraged by a line on the song that goes “IN A WORLD OF REINVENTIONS, IT’S NEVER TOO LATE”. The fact that a person can go through a life-changing incident and find a way to pull through reinventing themselves gave me hope and belief I could do the same. The second half of 2018 was a very difficult time for me and I thank God that he was able to pull me through.
Fast forward to 2019 and I got an opportunity to study what Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering, which is what I’d always wanted to study and at a great university no less. Now I know I’ve made mistakes in the past that may have landed me in my current predicament, but I made a promise that I won’t let past mistakes define who I am and who I’m going to be. Like Drake said “…MADE A NOTE OF THE MISTAKES WE CAN’T AFFORD AGAIN”. Taking the first step is usually the hardest and I’m happy that I’ve found the strength to finally start writing.
My blog will focus mainly on the science surrounding the petroleum industry explaining processes, positive and negative effects, and what improvements can be made. I will also be documenting my thoughts and experiences influenced by heavy doses of the music I listen to and books that I read.
I aim to inspire, encourage, educate and trigger. Naturally, I tend to be quite loud and I plan to be as loud as possible when talking about things I feel strongly about. I’d appreciate your comments and feedback on blog posts. Welcome, and I hope you stick around for the journey.
